This documentary is about a high school jazz group that does something much. The music and vibes are terrific, very well filmed and edited, not a monotonous moment. Recommended if keen in American jazz, education, school bands, or fair an engrossing yarn.

This Holiday film is based upon Louisa Mae Alcott’s book of the same title. It is space in Recent Hampshire shortly post Civil War and follows a young widowed mother’s determination to carry on with the rearing of her three children in spite of the hardships that advance about as a result of the loss of their father in the War. Things perceive radiant bleak nearing the Thanksgiving Holiday and the children, wishing to have a nice Thanksgiving Day dinner for their mom determine, without their mothers knowledge, to turn to their heretofore estranged but wealthy Grandmother for aid in making their wish advance correct. Not to give away the aesthetic predictable situation or ending, suffice it to say that there are plenty of unexpected surprises for everyone along the contrivance. Not one of Jacqueline Bissett’s better known films but her acting is passable as the young widowed mom.

There are not many Thanksgiving movies around, so this is a proper one to add to your holiday collection. The ride of the anecdote is a bit dull, but it does not detract from the film. It has a ample message to it - especially for the Thanksgiving holiday. Jacquline Bissett is very agreeable in this movie. The young lady who plays the main character (I don’t know her name) is a very likeable character as she tries to heal the rift in her family.

Thanksgiving seems to glean lost between Halloween and Christmas, so it will be nice to have this on DVD to assist withhold the holiday essential to my family.

If the effect of this DVD stays at $23.00 upon release, it is a bit pricey (which is why I gave it four stars) . If it is priced lower, deem this a five star review.

Film has very problematic describe and sound quality on Blu-Ray. It’s a astronomical 70s era “conspiracy” film, and very dull and talky in the Sydney Pollack intention, that appears rather quaint and naive considering what we have learned about the procedure the world works since then.

Buy,Download, Or Stream 3 Days of the Condor! Click Here

The source transfer for “3 Days of the Condor” has obviously not been re-done for Blu-Ray, and appears to be the same source transfer worn for the remarkable older DVD edition of this film. Although the pleasurable medium and capabilities of a 1080p Blu-Ray disc build this an upgraded draw to understanding this material, the limitations of an aging source transfer abound and call attention to themselves. Detail is excellent in well lit scenes, mighty less so on indirectly lit surfaces and shadows. Blacks are unstable, noisy and milky. Skin tone and texture prove the waxy accomplish of DNR (digital noise reduction) . Worthy of the “grain” appears to be tele-cine noise, great more than the right grain in the recent material. The sound is mediocre. All in all a better understanding than the DVD version. But only worth renting, or if it can be purchased primitive or on notice down at $10 or less. A exquisite film. But this Blu-Ray edition is certainly not worth $20.

In Nov. 1975, “Three Days of the Condor”, a suspenseful conspiracy thriller based on the unique by James Grady (titled “Six Days of the Condor) was adapted to film and directed by Sydney Pollack (”Sabrina” (1995), “The Firm”, “The Draw We Were”) and a screenplay by Lorenzo Semple Jr. (”King Kong”, “Flash Gordon”, “Sheena”, etc.) and David Rayfiel was released in theaters.

The film which received distinct reviews by critics was nominated for a 1976 Academy Award for “Film Editing” and also a winner of multiple awards.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR” is a 1975 film that is featured for the first time in 1080p High Definition on Blu-ray. Because the film was created in 1975, the film quality does indicate a bit of age but the transfer is actually better in portray quality that some 1990’s and early-2000 films that I have seen on High Definition.

The film does showcase a few dust but there are a number of dismal scenes and a few compression artifacts were detect but again, for a film over 34-years dilapidated, the colors were strong, blacks were grand and overall, a very suited transfer of the film to Blu-ray.

As for audio, the film is featured in English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD (and also French Mono) . Truth be told, this is a front channel, dialogue driven film. If there was spend of any bass, it’s that outmoded 70’s bass picking style that was current at the time that utilizes the bass. As for the action sequences, the gunshots and everything else seems quite bland but I was not expecting thrilling audio directionals to advance from all speaker channels with this film, so I found the audio qualified for a film this worn.

Subtitles are featured in English, English SDH, French and Spanish.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR” has only one special feature and that is the current theatrical trailer with scratches and dust galore. The trailer is in HD but it would have been nice to have someone do a commentary or revisit this film especially how relevant it is in today’s unique world.

JUDGMENT CALL:

“3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR” is a very beneficial conspiracy thriller. What is quite monstrous about this film which was released in 1975 is how it actually predicts the government’s involvement in future affairs. I don’t want to go into too remarkable into the film without spoiling it but I will say that what Turner is able to bag out, it’s what’s happening in today’s fresh world, especially with the United States.

What is also a bit numbing to sight is the few shots of the Twin Towers and the film featuring the two buildings not long after they were built.

Robert Redford’s performance was gorgeous but there were some lines that almost echoed a John Wayne style of acting which was acceptable around that time but for today’s current viewers, it may not beget up.

Stars that did shine in this film were Faye Dunaway, who did a gargantuan job playing the role of Kathy Hale. As a captive hostage turned woman who is willing to relieve her abductor, this was a film that seems to employ “Stockholm Syndrome” and not surprising considering that the Patty Hearst-SLA bank robberies in sincere life happened in 1974 or perhaps its a woman who agrees to befriend Joe Turner because both portion a side of sadness and loneliness in their life.

Max von Sydow as the assassin Joubert is also quite effective in his role, especially during the broad direct approach the extinguish of the film.

In reviewing this Blu-ray release, although a few artifacts and dust are seen on the video quality, this is probably the best transfer we will score of the film. The audio quality is uninspiring but considering this is not a recent film which we near to examine plump utilization of audio channels, “3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR” is quite determined in dialogue and for a 1975 film, taking all things into consideration, this is a handsome helpful transfer on Blu-ray ala HD.

My main peeve with this Blu-ray release is that a film with so remarkable relevance for today’s fresh world, it would have been improbable to have interviews with the stars or having some sort of special feature included other than the trailer.

The film is a well-written, well-edited and involving thriller with a storyline that I don’t know if Sydney Pollack or even modern writer James Grady knew how relevant it would be over 30 years later.

Overall, “3 DAYS OF THE CONDOR” is definitely an action-thriller classic definitely worth recommending!

How many words for “snow” do you know? In most languages, there is only one … or maybe a few, but not many different ones. But the Inuit language knows countless words for snow - different expressions based on its consistency, its aggregate site, on whether it’s musty or freshly fallen, and noteworthy, mighty more. And snow is Smilla Jaspersen’s specialty; it’s what she studies and what she knows better than anybody and anything. So when her only friend, an Inuit boy living in the same Copenhagen apartment complex as her is found wearisome on the pavement in front of their house, she knows something must be amiss; he can’t have fallen off the roof, as the police lickety-split conclude: frightened of heights, he would not have climbed to the roof if not driven there in the first site, and he certainly wouldn’t have hasten to the edge … as his footsteps in the otherwise untouched snow conceal on the roof, however, present.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Smilla’s Sense of Snow! Click Here

Smilla, half Inuit herself and brought to Copenhagen against her will after her Inuit mother’s death, is a loner, a rebel against society, hiding her fears and loneliness under a thick coat of armor of unapproachability and trying to be “rough all over.” Unable and unwilling to ever win that coat of armor, she takes refuge in science - her definition of longing are mathematics’s negative numbers, the “formalization of the feeling that you’re missing something.” - Yet, this movie’s Smilla is not the Smilla Jaspersen of Peter Hoeg’s current which the movie seeks to adapt … although Julia Ormond’s performance is not exactly coated with sugar, she is a far bellow from the book’s 37-year conventional woman who hates her Danish father for tearing her from her Greenlandic roots and commence skies, and who hates the confines of the society in which he has made her grow up.

And as the story’s protagonist changes in the movie adaption, so does the tale line itself - unfortunately, not for the better. Even accepting that it would have been impossible to translate all the novel’s subplots and subtleties onto the veil, what begins like a complex, introspective memoir about loneliness, the loss of home, and the unchecked power and ambition of a group of prestigious scientists, turns into your average thriller in the kill - a mammoth let-down in an otherwise compelling movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Smilla’s Sense of Snow! Click Here

Nevertheless, Ormond’s performance as Bille August’s Smilla (even if not Peter Hoeg’s) is strong; and so, in all its quietness, is Gabriel Byrne’s performance as Smilla’s neighbor, the would-be mechanic. Atmospherically, the movie wonderfully projects Smilla’s loneliness in the black, gray skies and wet snow of chilly Copenhagen, as opposed to the crisp blue skies, white ice fields and limitless horizons of Greenland. For these reasons alone, the movie is well worth watching; even if those of us who have read the unusual will have to leave aside a reliable share of its contents to be able to like the movie on its absorb merits.

Fargo (Special Edition)

When a young Inuit boy mysteriously falls to his death from the roof of an apartment building in Copenhagen, his neighbor (Julia Ormond) sets out to solve the puzzle armed only with the suspicion that his demise was not accidental — a suspicion arisen from her singular impression of his footprints in the snow. With the assist of another neighbor, known only as “the Mechanic” (Gabriel Byrne), Smilla takes on the head of a major mining corporation (Richard Harris) as well as the local authorities in order to set the boy’s soul at peace.

If the vehement disdain that its critics have heaped upon it is any indication, then this movie may be a severe disappointment to those who have read the fresh — not too surprising since most movies so based are never as genuine as the book and vice versa. But whereas films of this nature will usually give viewers far too grand information initially, leaving only a fable line already surmised to straggle resolutely to its conclusion, Smilla metes out the details sparingly. We glance fresh information only when the characters do and are blissfully kept in the dusky about exactly what has happened and why until the very demolish. Due primarily to a suited fable line as well as some grand performances from its notable cast members, the movie grabs our attention from the outset and commands it throughout.

Smilla herself comes across as a complex, shimmering, and resourceful woman although she is a self-confessed loner and perhaps not the most splendid of people. But by far the most compelling character turns out to be that of the Mechanic. Unprejudiced as we open to acquire that he is suitable, one action after another sends us (and Smilla) benefit to our initial assumption that this is one ambiguous guy with plenty of secrets to conceal himself. Yet we plunge for his stuttering innocence over and over again.

Despite a few cheesy lines and some minor inconsistencies, when taken on its maintain merit “Smilla’s Sense of Snow” is a thoroughly luscious and well-crafted mystery — one well-worth watching.

The Italian Dirty Dozen knockoff finally makes it to DVD. The wait was worth it. This review is for the 3 disc edition. A single disc edition is available, but the 3 disc is indeed loaded with goodies. Whatever floats your boat.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Inglorious Bastards! Click Here

Disc 1. The film is actually quite salubrious. Even if it is a Dirty Dozen knockoff, it smooth has it’s believe novel charm to stand alone. The characters are all quirky. It doesn’t consume itself too seriously. It knows what it is (A WW2 men-on-a-mission adventure) and it really wants it’s audience to have a well-behaved time. Fred Williamson is probably the best actor in here. I don’t know what the word would be, but he’s honest naturally icy. The rest of the cast does a heavenly job. Sit support and be pleased the trip.

I didn’t really give a synopses, but as most would know. It’s not the destination, it’s the scuttle getting there. The film is adventurous where it need to be, and droll in between. I figure anybody looking at this obscure title knows about it already.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Inglorious Bastards! Click Here

The portray quality is really amazing. With the source material at hand, it’s really hard to ask for something better. A Blu-Ray release would have been nice. But I can’t complain. We catch Inglorious Bastards in it’s paunchy uncut glory.

While I didn’t listen to the whole thing (Don’t have that noteworthy free time) Director Enzo supplies the film with an audio commentary. He obviously loves his work, and gives more info then we should know. It’s completely worth a listen for the fans. I hope to soon accomplish it myself.

Disc 1 finishes off with a conversation between Director Enzo G. Castellari and clean fan Quentin Tarantino. While I usually abhor shameless self promotion (Spy the support of the package and all it’s Tarantino-Esq quotes, eg. “Director [...] Is One Of Quentin Tarantino’s Heroes!” Do we care? ) This is actually a very estimable interview in the destroy. Tarantino being the obsessive fanboy he is, asks a lot of obscure questions. It’s worth while in the ruin. Runs 38 minutes, and is filled with info shipshape fans want to know about.

Disc 2. We originate of with a 13 dinky featurette where director Enzo revisits shooting locations and gives some arresting tidbits. Only for the natty fans. Wasn’t that enthusiastic myself.

Featurette number 2 is where all the sterling stuff is. It runs at a lengthy 1 hour 15 minutes. It includes interviews with most of the main players and production team. The best one here is again Fred Williamson. This Doc should easily please all fans. Even someone like me who wasn’t a massive follower found this very insightful and well worth my time. A+ material for definite.

Disc 3. The die hard fans should pick up a kick out of this, but for me it was useless. It’s an audio CD with over 20 minutes of unreleased gather tracks. Why not fair give us the whole soundtrack? It’s curious, but I guess they wanted to include everything. Can’t fault them for that.

The film: 7.5/10. A really fun WW2 adventure, but it is no where stop to the league of Dirty Dozen, Where Eagles Dare, or The Guns Of Navarone.

The DVD: 9 for the extras. Even though a few petite add ons were a dinky useless. This is a expansive small package for the fans.

it’s hard to say what I reflect of this film. It’s, in some ways, a lustrous war film that deserves recognition, while it can simultaneously build you shudder. it has a clever residence but then you have dialogue like “hey, those are our flyboys!” (impersonates an airplane while making a machine gun noise) ; there are some tremendous effects and sets that are made favorable exhaust of, but you can peruse the ropes pulling men from an explosion more clearly than you can survey the strings in an Ed Wood film; you have naked german women firing machine guns at retreating American troops, and then you have the fact that this scene only lasts a couple of seconds (this is first time that an Italian movie has skimpped out in this category, let alone not completely over do it. It should have been at least a few minutes long, if not for the sex appeal then for the pure hilariouty of it.)

It’s like a movie that’s so abominable that it’s obliging, but at the same time is actually genuine. And, like many films of this sort, it’s main source of entertainment comes from it’s cleverness that simply oozes from it’s different aspects including state and filmwork.

The only major jam is that I had expected it to actually go on for about two hours or so until it ended. I would’ve given it four stars if it were only longer (especially sure *clear throat* scenes) .

This film is unpleasant. The acting is repugnant and the stories are nonsensical. Being the masochist that I am, I actually sat through the whole thing. I almost turned it off when the memoir started with the doctor who was stunned by the street vagrant because he gave him, wait for it, a abominable hot dog(I wish I was making this up) . Luckily that was the final epic of this abomination.

To all those out there even thinking about buying this because you liked the first two films, DO NOT Remove IT.

When I heard this was gonna be terrible I didn’t engage it was going to be poor. 100% false to the originals. Most of the stories fair become corny. Like the other review says they unbiased don’t interpret anything. To me these stories seem like the 90s versions of the Twilight Zones. And the whole blending the stories together doesn’t work at all. Shows that tarentino actually has some talent when you examine it done so terrible.

So heres the worst news. You HAVE to glance this movie. its that dreadful. You impartial can’t hold it until you survey it. I don’t know what else to say. if nothing else I got some laughs out of the movie. But a alarm movie this is not.

Enjoy guys

This collection of “classic” science fiction gets three stars for value because there are fifty movies for an incredibly low price. On the other hand, you get what you pay for. Some movies in this group almost rise to the level of classic; including a couple that surprised me. Most of these movies are Mystery Science Theater 3000 fodder, and many of them actually appeared on MST3000. Highlights, or lowlights, as you prefer:

The Incredible Petrified World: It is incredible that anyone actually paid to see this one in the theater. The acting qualifies as petrified.

Queen of the Amazons: The Amazons needed a man to save them, and us, from this awful movie.

Robot Monster: Now you can tell everyone that you know where moth-eaten gorilla suits go when they die.

She Gods of Shark Reef: Even Roger Corman had to be embarrassed by this one.

The Amazing Transparent Man: Actually almost a good movie. The special effects were okay.

The Atomic Brain: Show some scantily clad babes, slap the word atomic brain for a title and you have a brilliant science fiction movie; or not.

The Horrors of Spider Island: Women in their undies run around an island with guys and a spider chasing them. A sad end for all of us.

The Wasp Woman: Beware of former beauty queens taking non-FDA approved drugs.

Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet: Actually not bad; decent robot with a murky plot.

Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women: You take the footage of the previous film, make sure the babes all look like they just got ready for a film shoot, and you have a sequel, ta-da.

Kong Island: Sad. Very Sad. I wish I could take back these minutes of my life.

Attack of the Monsters: Gammera battles Guiron in a periodically funny Japanese monster movie.

Bride of the Gorilla: Now you know why Raymond Burr switched to being a lawyer.

Gammera the Invincible: Gammera learns to walk on two legs, and generally terrorizes Japan. What else is new? Still, you have to watch this one if you are a Gammera fan.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians: Just when you think you’ve seen the worst you encounter this movie.

Teenagers from Outer Space: There are actually some interesting moments in this movie. It’s a good thing they failed to discover malls.

Crash of Moons and Menace from Outer Space: Early television science fiction. I love the costumes on the ladies!

Hercules Against the Moon Men; Hercules and the Captive Women; Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon; and Hercules Unchained; not all were really Hercules, but for most it does not matter anyway.

The Lost Jungle Volumes 1 and 2: Great white hunter look silly in jungle.

Mesa of Lost Women: Lacks bite.

Assignment: Outer Space: Needs reassigned.

Laser Mission: This movie needs cut.

Killers from Space: Decent science fiction, in spite of periodic inanity.

Phantom from Space: Aliens are misunderstood in this movie, which is one of the better ones in this collection.

White Pongo: The gorilla suit from Bride of the Gorilla gets bleached. This movie is actually decent.

Snow Creature: Begins with promise and leaves you cold.

Devil of the Desert Against the Sons of Hercules: Actually watchable.

First Spaceship on Venus: Probably the last too.

Zontar-Thing from Venus: Attack of the…never mind.

The Astral Factor: Stefanie Powers is the only hot thing in this movie.

The Galaxy Invader: You might be a redneck if you are in this sad movie.

Battle of the Worlds: Battle of Staying Awake.

Unknown World: Interesting moments mixed with strange script lines.

Blood Tide: James Earl Jones, Jose Ferrer and Mary Louise Weller are doing fine until they encounter a cheesy monster.

The Brain Machine: Is brain dead.

Wild Women of Wongo: I ain’t saying nothing.

Prehistoric Women: Hot hairdo women in caves.

They Came from Beyond Space: Considering that this movie is one of the best in this collection, I should be nice to it.

Warning from Space: Crams too many story lines into less than an hour and a half, but otherwise a decent movie.

Eegah: The prototype for the character Jaws in the James Bond movies, only living in a cave.

Planet Outlaws: It’s Buck Rogers!

Phantom Planet: Has its moments, good, bad, and awful.

Colossus and the Amazon Queen: Rod Taylor in a funny sword and sandals movie; about as bad as it sounds.

Destroy All Planets: Gammera (or Gamera) trots about saving little boys that steal submarines and get captured by aliens.

Please forgive me if I missed a movie or two in this list. There are a lot of movies in this collection, so I might have overlooked one, either unintentionally or intentionally. If you are a big science fiction fan, you will enjoy many of these movies. Even the movies you find less than okay are good for one watch, and the price of this collection will keep your personal distress low. Good luck!

SciFi Classics is a collection of 50 movies that have only one thing in common: they are all public domain and as such it is possible for them to be presented in highly affordable collections. I paid $21.99 for my set and that comes down to about 44 cents per movie. The way that movie tickets cost nowadays, you really cannot complain about this collection.

Anyways, here is how I rate the movies in SciFi Classics:

This collection was well researched and well made. The actors portraying the major players of the Revolution were very believable. The set is what it is; a great to start scratching your Revolutionary itch. However, it is glaringly lacking in some areas. For one, the complete brushing over of the entire Philadelphia Campaign. The only battle that even received mention was Brandywine. The rest of the action around Philadelphia went unmentioned, including the infamous winter at Valley Forge. The war in the South could have been more thoroughly addressed, also. Much like the History Channels “American Revolution” these video collections are entertaining and provide some fillers and portraits of human interest but the true Revolutionary enthusiast will come away disappointed. Keep your noses in the books for indepth treatment of this time period.

…if you’re at all interested in the fascinating Revolutionary war period. After seeing the series on PBS several years ago, I bought the VHS version, but now I wish I’d waited for DVD. It’s an awesome documentary of the Revolutionary war, including politics and battles, with enough details of personalities and strategies to satisfy most. I particularly liked the period music soundtrack.

Watch this and be inspired by the awesome Herbie Hancock. The recording sessions are great. The music and the movie flow along like a terrific jazz solo, riffing on all kinds of themes but Herbie brings it together into a whole. Just watching him play on the piano is a treat. If you’re not that familiar with this living jazz legend, check this out and you’ll admire both the man and his music.

Herbie Hancock is a man who embraces all kinds of people and experiences, an explorer in many cultural and musical fields. This DVD is a good introduction to him and his life, featuring snippets from his early quartet years with legends Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter to his forays into electronic funk with the Headhunters to his most recent collaborations.

Some of these sessions are more successful than others, but all are interesting. Hancock performs with great stars like Annie Lennox, Carlos Santana, and Paul Simon, makes international connections with singers like Angelique Kidjo and composers like Brian Eno, and concludes with a trip to Japan where his spiritual side is revealed. The disc presents many enjoyable and insightful moments in the creative process.

I have to point out, however, that this film is primarily a making-of documentary. It doesn’t present finished, polished work, serving instead as an invitation to listen to the Possibilities CD as well as to those recordings produced during Hancock’s earlier incarnations. As such, I would say it’s more of a DVD to rent than one you need to own, even if you are a big Hancock fan.
